Cords, green and purple, originally uploaded by Marian Florcita.
Spinning relaxes me. I don’t know if it is the rythmic almost monotonous sound of the wheel… but it just sooths me! I’ve been making some cords which can double as necklaces or bracelets. This one here has cotton, merino wool, silk, bamboo…and…….I think that’s it. It’s [...]

Setting the twist
April 26th, 2010 · 2 Comments · Fibre Art, Spinning
This turned into these (scroll down) skeins over the weekend. They are now drying with some weight on them to set the twist. It’s cloudy outside but the breeze will do it’s trick. I don’t know if you can really see it on the pictures, but here you have an example of how differently fibres [...]

As long as it’s sunny
April 21st, 2010 · 5 Comments · Dyeing, Fibre Art, Spinning
I’m the kind of person that as soon as sees sun, MUST run outside. I feel like I am wasting my time if I stay indoors. Which, as you might imagine, didn’t make my life very easy when I had an office job.
Felting outside is not very easy. Well, laying the wool isn’t [...]

Tea dye
March 18th, 2010 · 10 Comments · Felt, Fibre Art
Now that the days are getting a bit nicer, I’m speding a lot more time outdoors. Going for walks, working in the garden. I ordered yesterday 3 new plants for the dye garden: woad (Isatis tinctoria) which gives a Blue dye. Madder (Rubia Tinctorum) that gives red, and weld (reseda luteola) which gives yellow. Last [...]

A couple more blankets

Well, before I put these photos in the archive and forget about them, here are a couple more blankets that I made in Argentina.
The first on is a baby blanket. Very soft, made of merino with silk and bamboo. The flowers are made of prefelts done with hand dyed wool.
Esta primer mantita es para una [...]

Dyeing adventures…
September 30th, 2009 · 11 Comments · Dyeing, Fibre Art
A few months ago I received from Monika from Red2White a little package in return for a package with wooden and ceramic buttons I sent her. Among other goodies, she included a bag of 100gr of logwood (Haematoxylum campechianum) and alum. Coincidentaly, as if the universe was trying to tell me something, the next day [...]

Wow, thanks for your support with the yarns. Two of them are already gone and will be travelling with a little gift each…
As you know, and if you don’t …here it is, I will be going back to my homeland for a visit in a few months. So, just because I feel generous (or I [...]

September 11th, 2009 · 10 Comments · Dyeing, Fibre Art, Spinning
